Cayce, S.C. – Farm Bureau Insurance honored David Newton, agent in Florence County, with their prestigious MAPS Award. The award was announced March 5 at the company’s annual sales conference held at the Sonesta Resort in Hilton Head Island. Newton was one of just two agents throughout the state to receive the MAPS Award, the company’s highest award of excellence.

“I take a lot of pride in my work and in serving my clients,” Newton said. “It means a lot that the company I represent is honoring me for my effort. I was very humbled and surprised when my name was announced.”

The MAPS Award honors select agents who demonstrate a daily commitment to providing the highest level of customer service. Those recognized exemplify traits like trustworthiness, sincerity and honesty.

“Any insurance company can sell a policy, but it’s the people behind the policy that matters most, and it’s what makes us unique as a company,” Bill Courtney, chief executive officer, said. “David and agents like him are our company’s most valuable asset.”

Newton grew up in Lyman, South Carolina, a small town in Spartanburg County. After graduating from Clemson University in 1997, he moved to Florence to work for the South Carolina Farm Bureau Federation promoting agriculture in support of the organization’s mission. In 2010, Newton transitioned to a new career as an agent for Farm Bureau Insurance.

In addition to Newton, Brent Branham, agency manager in Abbeville and Laurens Counties was also honored as a 2020 MAPS Award recipient.
